What is Title 1?
Title 1, Part A of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act is one of the nation's oldest and largest federally funded education programs.
The program provides additional funds to local school districts to assist low achieving students in high poverty schools. Funds are used to help these students to meet the states challenging academic standards.
Title 1 has 3 primary goals:
1- to improve student achievement for all participating students
2- to improve staff development
3- to improve parental and community involvement.

What does Title 1 do for students?
Title 1 provides additional academic support services to students who have demonstrated a need for extra assistance. The students who are determined to be "at risk", through a predetermined selection criteria that has been developed by the Title 1 staff at your school, receive additional academic assistance beyond the regular classroom.
Which schools receive Title 1 services?
Presently, Title 1 serves children at the Edgartown School, Oak Bluffs School, Martha's Vineyard Regional High School, and the Tisbury School.
